Microtunneling for Large-Diameter & Deep Crossings
Microtunneling is the large-diameter, high-precision end of trenchless. A remotely operated, guided boring machine installs pipe on tight line and grade — the method to reach for when the line is too big or too deep for conventional boring and the grade can't drift.
When microtunneling is the answer
Deep gravity sewer that must hold an exact slope, large trunk mains, long drives under critical infrastructure, and crossings where settlement can't be tolerated. The guidance system steers the machine continuously, so the pipe lands where the survey says it should.
It's a bigger mobilization than HDD or auger boring, so it's specified where the size, depth, or accuracy of the crossing justifies it — not for a routine service line.

Continuous support of the bore face (important in mixed or unstable ground), minimal surface disruption over the drive, and the tight tolerances large-diameter gravity systems require. We scope microtunneling crossings against the geology, the depth, and the accuracy spec.

When would I need microtunneling instead of jack and bore?
When the pipe is large-diameter, deep, on a long drive, or has to hold a precise gravity grade through ground that conventional boring can't support. For short, smaller cased crossings, jack and bore is usually the better fit.
Is microtunneling available for smaller jobs?
It's specified where size, depth, or accuracy justify the mobilization. For routine service crossings we'll usually recommend HDD or auger boring — send the crossing and we'll advise honestly.
